Get to Know Jin and Leran

Big news! Last week we welcomed not one but two brand new members to the Â鶹´«Ã½ Family; introducing Jin Dhaliwal and Leran Rapoport. (A few weeks prior, we also )

Jin joins our team from Wilfrid Laurier University with a background in Computer Science and Leran is finishing up her Business Administration degree at the Schulich School of Business.

Jin has joined on a full time basis as a Software Engineer, while Leran is here as a Communications and Social Media Intern for the summer. As usual, we asked our newcomers a few questions to get to know them a little bit better.

Jin

Why did you choose to study Software Engineering?

When I was a kid I found that taking stuff apart to see how they worked was the most exciting thing in the world. Then I grew up and realized that building stuff from those parts was actually the most exciting thing in the word.

What's your focus?

My focus as a software engineer is still fairly broad. I haven't had enough time to discover what I'm best at. That being said, I am definitely excited about mobile technologies and wearables. Things that bring tech out of the office and get people excited. Oh yeah, and drones are pretty cool. I want to build my own soon.

Why Â鶹´«Ã½?

I just followed my heart ;)

Ha! Good answer. Ok, ok, now fun questions.

Last trip you took?

The last major trip I took was with my family to New Zealand for a Lord of the Rings tour de force. We traversed the whole country visiting sites related to the movies (and some that weren't of course). It was amazingly nerdy and we made many moments that I think none of us will ever forget (such as staring at the milky way from the southern hemisphere).

What do you do with your time outside of Â鶹´«Ã½?

Well I’ve been on a health kick recently trying to get back to my fighting weight, so mostly exercise and cooking.

What do you always want to try and never did?

Archery. It’s a skill that will probably never be put to practical use, but it’s awesomeness makes up for that.

Leran

Why did you chose to study Business Administration?

I’m the type of person that loves to keep my options open because I often change my mind. By studying business, I'm able to gain insight about many different fields and will be able to apply what i’ve learned into most paths I branch out to. Plus, learning the fundamentals of accounting and finance are general life skills I’ll definitely apply in my own personal life, so that’s a great bonus!

What's your focus?

In school I am currently majoring in Marketing. However, more specifically, I am mainly interested in all aspects of digital and social media. I am also considering branching out and majoring in Organizational Behaviour. Thus, at Â鶹´«Ã½, my focus through my internship is learning more about the world of social media, while also working with aspects of customer service. However, I'm always open to switching it up and trying something new!

Why Â鶹´«Ã½?

Growing up I always knew that I wanted to help others in some way. That’s why I found Â鶹´«Ã½ to be so appealing; helping others to connect with each other to each reap a great benefit. I always wondered what I would do once I lived on my own and where I would find all the different services I would need without the help of my parents, so the site itself seemed like a great concept! Once I met the team, filled with kind and caring individuals, I knew Â鶹´«Ã½ was perfect for me.

Now for the not so serious questions...

Last trip you took?

The last trip I took was a spontaneous, last-minute, girls trip to Miami! It was my first time visiting Florida, and I must say that I fell in love with the city. A weekend away under the warm Miami sun filled with visits to the beach was exactly what the doctor ordered after all those final exams.

What do you do with your time outside of Â鶹´«Ã½?

I’m a TV show fanatic, so I love to catch up on any episodes I may have missed. I recently started watching Prison Break, so binge watching that has begun to take up a lot of my free time. I also enjoy going to the gym, and hanging out with my friends at some local restaurants. Now that it's summertime, I hope to get back into playing the piano - I used to play everyday!

If you had to eat one meal, every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?

It’s hard for me to commit to just one meal, but if I had to choose it would have to be the Chipotle Chicken Bowl. I LOVE Chipotle, I'm convinced I could actually eat it everyday. Sushi is a close second!

It’s an exciting time of growth and change at Â鶹´«Ã½ and we're ecstatic to have both Jin and Leran join our team. Keep an eye out for more new faces which we'll be welcoming soon!
